anime and me
Anime and me

Personally I am a big fan of anime and manga and I think they both play significant roles on influencing on the growth of my life. I still remember the first time I set foot in the anime world was when I was in 5 years old. During that time, different series of Ultraman were imported to China and they gained dramatic popularity in various ranges of ages of children. I was also one of the crazy fans who fascinated by the justice and powerful figure fight against with the evil monsters. Every Sunday night 7;00 pm I sit right in front of the television waited for the newest series of Ultraman and the moment of the theme song sounded, I could not help myself singing with it and I felt that was something indispensable in my life. So many times, I imagined myself is the chosen one who took a great responsibility to save entire human race. I think I benefit a lot from Ultraman. Now many elder people or peers say I am a responsible man and I think in a big extent Ultraman taught me a lot how to think more in other people’s perspective rather than self-interest as well as consider all the possible results or consequences before doing something. However it was also a double aged sword, if you devoted to much time and energy into it like Otaku, you would immerse yourself in your own world and lose the communication ability with other people in real life.
After came across with the
series of Ultraman, I was deeply attracted by fantastic and mysterious aspects
of two dimensional world. I started to watch significant amount anime like EVA,
One piece, Naruto, and Detective Conan and I think their contents all contain
many education values which reveal a lot of big philosophy questions. For example, Naruto is
a very positive and stirring story, the main character Naruto born with ninth
tails in his body and people in the village see him as the Incarnation of devil
so everybody held a hostility towards Naruto. Unlike other children have the company
of parents and friends; he always by himself and nobody care about him. However,
he is a type of person never lose faith and eventually he used his perseverance,
sweat and tears to get other people’s recognition. I interpreted each anime series as a symbolization of the
authors’ inner world as well as some big thought they found important in everyday
life such as criticizing the devoid of humanity with the repeated development
of technology ( like Gost in the shell). Meanwhile, It is also something that the
author unable to accomplish in the real world.
Among of these various anime, Slam Dunk was
the one inspiring me most ( basketball is my favorite sport )and it is like a
capstone in the anime world. Slam dunk is about a basketball player-Sakuragi’s Legendary Life which is very inspirational
and hot blooded. Sakuragi was
characterized as a gangster figure student in high school and he had a rush on
the female protagonist Akagi who is the
sister of the captain of school basketball team. Akagi recognized Sakuragi's
athleticism and persuaded him to join the school team and finally his legendary
life began. Through Shohoku basketball team, Sakuragi found his life
goals and he fought for it. At the back of the success is subtly hidden
an episode of suffering and bitterness not known to anyone, but with his
teammates on his back and his hard work, Sakuragi’s team finally got into quarterfinals.
However, Shohoku narrowly missed champion and last episode ended with Sakuragi’s
injure and the left of the team captain. Many audiences could not accept the sad
ending and complain it at the public. But for me what you learnt through the
process rather result is what truly matters, such as teamwork, the hot blooded,
a clear vision and courage. This happens in real life too, no matter how hard we
try how much energy and sweat we put in, the ending might not fully up to
expectations, but what we need to appreciate is the scenery along the
way and the people who support you. I have to say the amazing soundtrack also gives
Slim Dunk a lot of credits, especially the theme song. I can sing it even I cannot speak Japanese. I listen
to it when I work out in the gyms; when I felt depressed and I feel it just touches
the deepest part of my soul and at the same time inspire me to move forward.
Sometimes media can really plays a misleading role like
the interviewees in Otaku no video, they all a group of extreme people
who lost the social communication skill and stuck in their zone day by day. However
they are only the minority and apparently they cannot represent all the fans of
anime. I don’t think being a fan of anime means Otaku. I have been attended
several conventions both domestically and internationally and they were all
valuable experience for me. I never have an experience of cosplaying because I do
not know how to put on makeup but I am willing to learn. I still working out in
the gym, playing tennis and basketball and I have a normal social life. I think
the point is to find a balance between three dimensional and two dimensional
world.
